The Evadale Rebels secured the district championship last week, and all that stood between them and going undefeated in District 12-2A Division II was the Burkeville Mustangs.

Evadale started slow, but finished strong and defeated Burkeville 35-6 to stay undefeated in district play.

Quarterback Ashen Shah put Evadale on top with a 26-yard run and Svend Puge’s PAT kick made the score 7-0 in the first quarter. Gary Farr scored with a 1-yard run in the second quarter and another PAT made the score 14-0.

Burkeville came out of halftime and scored the only points of the third quarter with a 69-yard run, but Evadale stopped the two-point conversion and led 14-6.

The fourth quarter was all Evadale as Farr scored on a 34-yard run and increased the lead to 21-6. Chase Smith added a 3-yard run and another PAT kick made the score 28-6.

In a last attempt to score, the Mustangs were intercpted by Landon Hoke, who returned the ball 21 yards for a touchdown. Evadale won 35-6.

After losing twice in their first four games, Evadale reeled off six straight wins and made the playoffs for the 17th straight year. Evadale will face Cushing, the fourth place finisher from District 11.
